Fr. Richard Anthony Fowler, 81 years old, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2008. A Mass was held on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 10:30am, at St. Goerge in Apache Junction.
Fr. Fowler was born and raised in Manhattan, New York, before becoming a Priest. He worked for the Department of Corrections as a Parole Judge and a social worker. He retired from the state of New York then entered St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland.
Fr. Fowler was ordained by Bishop John Aloysius Marshall, Bishop of Burlington, Vermont on May 21, 1988. He worked in several parishes. One of his assignments included administrator of four parishes at the same time. Fr. Fowler came to Arizona in the year 2000. He worked for a few years until his health declined. He had many talents and heard many confessions.
He is survived by his sister, Sister Mary Theresa Fowler, a Sister of Charity of New York for 50 years. Preceding Fr. Fowler were his parents, Jeremiah Fowler and Julia Byrne, 4 brothers, Stanley, Austin, John, Raymond and one sister, Margie.
